7 September – Fairly uneventful drive thru Muskoka to Chutes Provincial Park, in Massey. We stopped in Parry Sounds for a walk.  Marveled at the massive road construction projects on Highway 69.  We anticipate these will lead to the transformation of the country north of Superior in the coming years.  Lovely countryside, brief but torrential rain, a nice camp at Chutes
8 September – Drove from Chutes PP to Wawa, good weather and delightful scenery.  We drove close 400 km this day, we are definitely on the downhill run.  Endless Ontario at the top of Lake Superior seems to give one an urgent desire just to escape.  Enormous amount of roadworks on the TransCanada.  Delays of up to an hour a day.  It will be interesting to see if the Western sections of the TransCanada are receiving such lavish attention.  Nice camp at Wawa, but a near frost in the evening.  Luckily we had topped up the propane tank so could heat the camper interior with brazen disregard to global warming considerations.
9 September – Wawa to Thunder Bay.  Day did not start well with a near frost.  Phil took off in the wrong direction for the showers, and when he found them his was only lukewarm, so by the time he made it back to the camper he was practically hypothermic.  Long day, 536 km, but we were encouraged by the prospect of freeing ourselves from vast Ontario tomorrow.  Again Lake Superior gave us glimpses of beautiful shorelines and islands in the bright sunshine.  However when you stepped outside the vehicle the icy winds off the lake did not encourage dallying.  Bypassed Thunder Bay to a campground just north of Thunder Bay, poised for a run to the Winnipeg border tomorrow.

  1. Good to catch up with you both. Great writing...feel like I'm there with you. Enjoy the prairies...hope air quality etc. Is OK as you near BC fires.

  2. Those temperatures sound very foreign to ours here in the Lower Mainland. Thankfully, the smoke from the BC wildfires has blown away and we are enjoying more of the incredible summer weather. Enjoy the rest of your trip! Talk soon. Safe travels@
